Spent the day yesterday with my sisters at the American Women's Bazaar - a monthly market showcasing Filipino products. Came back home with a bagful of stuff. Would've come home with a lot more if I wasn't too worried about bringing everything back to the UK!
Nikki got back home a few minutes after I did and she was very happy at having joined Sari at school. It seemed as if she had an absolutely fantastic time. And because the Tali trip had been postponed, we agreed to let her go back to school another day. Apparently she was very popular at the school and all the other children ended up gifting her with bits and bobs: erasers, pencils, clay, etc. Alasdair and I were very happy to hear that she also participated in class: she raised her hands to answer a few questions and even volunteered to read a poem for her classmates!
After Nikki left with Mayet, Alasdair and I had to get changed quickly to attend the launch of footwear range Ipanema at the Fort. Patxi brings the brand to the Philippines and he organised quite a clever fashion show of dancing feet. It's too complicated to explain so I won't even try. But it was good. And the Brazilian food and caipirinhas (for those who drink anyway) were fab. We had to leave early though to join the rest of my family at a dinner with a family friend.
I've known Daniel forever. He was my sister Mayet's bestfriend and basically became a family fixture in our house. He used to make these little gorgoyle sculptures made of clay, which were absolutely incredible. My dad loved them so much, he used to buy them as presents for friends at Christmas et al. Now Daniel has made his name as a sculptor of metal. His works are absolutely stunning.
I bumped into Daniel (after not seeing him for over 15 years) at Nuvo a couple of weeks ago, and he invited my entire family for dinner. Apparently he feels eternally grateful to my dad for believing in him. So the entire German family arrived - plus our spouses - so he was a brave man, and so is his wife, the lovely Monica. It ended up turning it some sort of family reunion - it's the first time my entire family are together since I arrived. I've seen them all at some point, but not all together. I suppose we have been moving a lot. Funny...
Daniel's house is beautiful - I found it very organic and the whole structure seemed to flow. It was made more impressive because Daniel and Monica designed the house themselves. Sadly, I failed to bring my camera so was unable to take any pictures. Very silly of me. But their house is being featured in an upscale home magazine next month, so I'll see if I can scan it. I also found someone else's blog featuring their home and some of Daniel's sculptures - I hope she doesn't mind that I'm including the link here: http://mjrodis.multiply.com/photos/album/219/Daniel_Monica_de_la_Cruz_Dinner_Sculpture#1

You are a "par-teh"animal! Talked to my mom and she said she was glad to see you guys. Hope the tapas and wines were good!
Hi guys,
You are all going to be so bored when you get back to the UK. I wouldn't bother if I were you, the weather is appalling.
We have never been to this part of the world and from your pictures, which are stunning, I definitely think we should consider a trip.
It is good to hear you are all having such a wonderful time. See you soon.
Emma
