Canlubang Golf Club

Went to the gym this morning with my sister Mayet. This is becoming a little bit worrying, actually. Rather than getting fit, my fitness levels seem to be going down at an alarming rate. I suppose days lying around by beaches and swimming pools don't help. And neither does stuffing myself with Filipino food. Admittedly, Filipino food is perhaps healthier than British fare, but this is a case of too much of a good thing...

Left for Canlubang Golf Club at almost 10am, which means that we didn't actually get to tee off till almost half-eleven. Which isn't good when you consider that the very hot sun is right on top of you at midday. Started off so so badly, but luckily thinks started to improve - a bit anyway. Just did nine holes - apart from the fact that it was nearly 3pm and we still hadn't had lunch, the sun got a bit too much. By the end, I felt like I was going to pass out.

We recently joined the golf club - it's the largest in the Philippines and was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr (apparently this should mean something to golf fans). It's got some pretty impressive views with its coconut lined fairways and its view of Mount Makiling, an inactive volcano. I quizzed our caddies on the legend of Mariang Makiling (Maria of Makiling), but they were as clueless as I was. She's meant to be the guardian angel of the volcano, and it's shape is meant to be her lying down. Anyway I've done my research and here you go:

Home now and getting Nikki ready - she's staying over at her cousin's Sari's place. She's going to spend the day with Sari tomorrow at her school, and she's really looking forward to it. Mayet's provided her with a school uniform, but I forgot to bring her school shoes! Argh. And talk about an early start to the day! They start school at 7am and finish at 2:30. By the time they're in Grade 5 (Year 5 equivalent in the UK system) they finish at 3:30. Egad.
